Encounter — Discovery of Sound
Encounter (also known as EncounterDOS, the handle @encounterdos used across streaming and social platforms) is a Berlin-based 90s-style atmospheric jungle and drum and bass (DnB) project on the record label Discovery of Sound, in the tradition of the Good Looking Records sound — LTJ Bukem, Seba and Tayla. The music is presented as an interactive 3D solar system in which each planet is a release, the atmospheric jungle tracing a sonic journey through space. The debut album, Mercury, arrives October 6, 2026, led by the singles Mariner 10 (September 21) and MESSENGER (September 29).
Encounter DOS — the jungle and drum & bass project
Encounter is the jungle / DnB alias of a Berlin-based producer recording for Discovery of Sound. Because “Encounter” is a common word, the project is often written as Encounter DOS or EncounterDOS — DOS standing for Discovery of Sound — and that is the handle to look for on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Audiomack, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. Searching for encounter jungle, encounter dnb or encounter discovery of sound refers to this project.
Mercury — debut album by Encounter (out October 2026)
Mercury is the first release from Encounter on Discovery of Sound: a five-track, strictly instrumental atmospheric jungle / drum & bass album, out October 2026, produced entirely on classic hardware — the AKAI MPC 2000 and S3000XL samplers and Korg 01/W and X5 synthesizers. Tracklist:
- Mariner 10
- Caloris
- Bruce C. Murray
- MESSENGER
- 88 Days

Mercury — liner notes
Every track on Mercury is named for the exploration of the planet itself:
- Mariner 10 — after the NASA probe that made the first flybys of Mercury in 1974–75.
- Caloris — after Caloris Planitia, one of the largest impact basins in the solar system.
- Bruce C. Murray — a tribute to the planetary scientist who helped lead the Mariner missions and co-founded The Planetary Society.
- MESSENGER — after the NASA spacecraft that became the first to orbit Mercury.
- 88 Days — the time Mercury takes to complete one orbit of the Sun.
What Encounter sounds like
Atmospheric, spacey jungle and drum & bass in the lineage of the Good Looking Records / Looking Good era — deep pads, rolling breakbeats and a science-fiction atmosphere, drawing on artists such as LTJ Bukem, Seba and Tayla. If you are searching for new atmospheric jungle, liquid or intelligent drum & bass in the classic mid-90s style, that is the Encounter sound.
Upcoming Encounter releases
Future releases from Encounter on Discovery of Sound — each mapped to a planet in the solar system — include Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Coming soon.
Space Encounter 91 — the free browser arcade game
Space Encounter 91 is a free Space Invaders-style arcade game built into this website. It runs in the browser with nothing to install and no account required, on desktop and mobile. Each mission is an album and each round is one of its tracks, so the music plays as you fight through it: clear the round and the next track begins.
Finishing a planet's mission unlocks that album's music player in the solar system, which is the only way to open it. Scores are kept on a shared online leaderboard — the top 5 players on each album's leaderboard win a signed CD. The first mission is Mercury, five rounds named after the Mercury space missions: Mariner 10, Caloris, Bruce C. Murray, MESSENGER and 88 Days.
The game is also known as Space Encounter, the Space Encounter game or Encounter 91. Play it free by clicking the ship in the solar system, or read the full guide to Space Encounter 91 — controls, the UFO bonuses, the missions and the leaderboard prize.
